Therapy Dog Program

In addition to rescue and adoption, GRR is proud to sponsor a therapy dog program. Sugar, a Labrador Retriever, with her handler Nina Henderson, recently received accreditation with Therapy Dog International, TDI, and is currently working in two schools in Newton County with Pre-K and Special Education students. Sugar’s presence as a therapy dog has become immeasurable for the successes of the students who work with her daily. 

GRR's newest Therapy Dog endeavor is to train dogs to live in homes with autistic children.  Our best prospects right now are Sam a Boxer and Cole a Labrador Retriever.  Both of these dogs were recently rescued from Morgan County Animal Control.  They are both eager learners, attentive listeners, and have very even/social temperaments.
